GOLC TIMELINE

Tara Guido was the mastermind behind our Great Outdoor Learning Center {GOLC}. She came from a private school in Sparta where they had an outdoor classroom. Using this inspiration, she organized our Walk-a-Thon fundraiser and reached out to our community for any help that could be given. Through the support from parents and community members, whether it was donations, expertise, or hands-on labor, the GOLC was quickly born and has taken on a life of its own. Over the years, it has grown into a special place for our teachers and learners and it continues to evolve each year. Below you will find a snapshot of how it began and where it is today.

Although COVID has many schools working remotely, our students return for in-person instruction and our GOLC is ready!

Summer, 2021
We were very busy this summer relaying some of our garden! The vertical pallets came down to allow for more horizontal growing. We were also experiencing severe runoff that was causing a great deal of erosion. Jamie Curcio, Commander, US Navy Reserve and friend of the Campasano Family, came and laid out a stone walkway for us that helps to bridge the entrance of the GOLC and the Prek-4 playground, while also helping to maintain the land for our pallets and mulch. Additionally, Judy Lipman, Master Gardener at Rutgers, donated plants from the annual Master Gardener plant sale to help add to our GOLC.
